Hello all, We have a camp this upcoming weekend and have a few schedule changes and volunteer opportunities. On Saturday night we will be stopping rehearsal at 5:30. Students are still required to stay until 8 but we are having a movie night (mandatory team activity). We would like to see if parents could volunteer to prepare and bring items for dinner. Pot luck style or any other items would be welcome. The movie is geared towards team building and understanding. Sunday’s rehearsal will begin at the scheduled time but end at 4:00 on the dot. ...
Thank you to all of those students who worked so diligently in preparation for auditions this weekend. We as teachers and parents are all very proud of your efforts. I am personally encouraged by the way you handled yourselves in the audition process. You represented your school very, very well.

DISTRICT BAND INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS DATE: Saturday December 09, 2017 SITE: Hickory High School, 1996 Hawk Blvd. Chesapeake Virginia, 23322 REGISTRATION INFORMATION 1. Students must register at the appropriate registration desk. Middle school and High School will be individually marked. Students may only register and audition on the instrument(s) for which they were pre-registered. 2. While at registration, each student will be given a sticker with his or her audition number on it. DO NOT LOSE THIS STICKER. It is wise to put it on your shirt until your audition. This sticker must be given to the guide in the audition room to be announced and then given to the judges. 3. Students should report to the registration desk at their scheduled registration time. Registration for each instrument of alphabet section will close 30 minutes after the assigned reporting time or when the next instrument is scheduled to begin registering, whichever time is earlier. Students attempting to register late will not be allowed to audition, unless prior arrangements were made with the audition chairs. Students may not register before the schedule registration time unless called upon by the Announcer. 4. There is no way to predict how many of the students who pre-registered will actually show up to audition. Therefore, there may be a large gap between when you register and when you are called to the warm up. Bring something to read or study in the waiting area and plan to spend several hours in the audition procedure. AUDITION EXPECTATIONS 1. DO NOT BRING CELL PHONES INTO THE AUDITION ROOMS. 2. DO NOT PLAY INSTRUMENTS IN THE HALLWAYS. You may only play your instrument in the warm-up area and audition room. 3. DO NOT TALK DIRECTLY TO THE JUDGES. Only whispered questions to the guide are allowed. Make sure to direct all questions to your guide. 4. In the audition room, students will be asked to play various materials by the judges. The judges will give the metronome tempo before the student plays. When the metronome stops, the student should begin to play, maintaining the proper tempo. No tempos will be given for sight-reading. Remember that the major scales will be called for by instrument pitch—NOT CONCERT PITCH. Music stands will be provided in all audition rooms. 5. Because of the larger number of students auditioning on Middle School Clarinet, Middle School Trumpet, Middle School Snare/ Mallet and High School Percussion multiple rooms will be used for the audition. The woodwinds and brass will perform major scales and the prepared piece in the first room, then perform their chromatic scale and sight-reading in the other. Middle School Snare will perform Major Scales, Chromatic Scale, Snare Prepared, Mallet Prepared in the first room and two rudiments, long roll and snare sight-reading in the second room. High School Percussionists will perform snare rudiments, rolls and sightreading in room 1, percussion prepared in room 2, timpani sight-reading in room 3, and mallet scales and sight-reading in room 4. 6. Percussionist must furnish his or her own snare drums, sticks and mallets. The host school will provide all other percussion equipment needed for the audition. 7. Transportation to and from the audition site is the responsibility of the student. Transportation problems or leaving music or equipment in cars are not reasons for auditioning at a later time. Students, who have completed their audition and are waiting for rides, must remain in the waiting area of each school. No students are to be wandering around the halls. 8. No unauthorized persons are permitted in the warm-up or judging areas. Parents, friends, private teachers, etc. must remain in the waiting area while waiting for students. 9. Students who are auditioning on baritone/euphonium need to be sure to tell the guide whether they are reading treble clef or bass clef and be sure the guide announces the correct clef to the judge. 10. Results will be e-mailed to the District IV Directors. Audition results will not be posted for students at the audition site. ...
